Castle Rock Rehabilitation

Conservation Seeding and Restoration is working on a project to reclaim the unsightly scar running down the face of Castle Rock near the Old Idaho Penitentiary.

The scar is the result of visitors hiking up straight up to the Castle Rock monolith -- rather than using the Castle Rock Loop Trail.  While the area has been fenced and posted as closed for many years, some use has continued and no real re-vegetative effort was ever undertaken.

In November, the site was seeded and erosion control matting was placed over the path.  It is hoped that users will now refrain from using this path, and if successful the path should revegetate and heal nicely within a few years.
